भिक्षार्थं किञ्चित् निष्किञ्नगृहं प्राप्ताय शङ्कराय गृहिण्याः शुष्कामलकमेवालभत। गृहस्य दौर्भिक्षं प्रत्यभिज्ञातः शङ्करः तत्रैव
स्थित्वा ऐश्वर्यदेवतां महालक्ष्मीं संस्तुत्य कनकधारास्तवं विरच्य
प्रार्थयामास। स्तवेन प्रसीदा देवी सुवर्णामलकानि वर्षयित्वा तत्कुटुम्बम्
अनुगृह्णाति स्म इत्यैतिह्यः।
तदनुस्मारयन् आयोजिते कनकधारायज्ञे लक्ष्मीदेव्याः प्राणप्रतिष्ठां कृतानि
स्फटिकयुक्तानि सुवर्ण-रजतामलकानि १००८ वारं कनकधारास्तोत्रजपैः
पवित्रीकृत्य भक्तजनेभ्यः अक्षयतृतीयादिने प्रदास्यन्ते।
